Enriching Lives through NDE
Dear ISNT members,
Let me wish all of you a very Happy New Year, 2026!
It is with great sense of honor and humility; I am privileged to accept the responsibility as the President of ISNT, a truly world class Professional Society. At the outset, let me compliment and place on record my heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing NGC team for their wonderful contributions over the past 2 years. Their actions have truly transformed ISNT into one of the greatest, if not the greatest professional society.
A love for learning, a strong desire for continual improvement coupled with a fierce commitment to uphold the truth and integrity are the essential ingredients for the success of any technical society. At this instant, let me express my happiness to experience each and every one of these traits in ISNT. Needless to say, that the strength of any professional society is its esteemed members. Over the past 40+ years, ISNT through its 19 chapters, could capture the attention of serious NDT practitioners across various organizations, industries, universities in India. Obviously, the framework setup by our founding members of the society, executive decisions taken by past presidents with the support of honorable general secretaries and NGC members of ISNT needs a special mention. Day in and day out, the society is filled with activities which can only happen by the intellectual passion shared by each and every member. My career in this organization spanning 30+ years in various positions, including several different roles in NGC has given me a clear insight into the plethora of ideas which each and every member possess. Moreover, it is also heartening to note that the members had voiced their point of view wherever essential keeping the greater good of the society in mind. In addition, I am also sure about all the members’ willingness to never shy away, in case of a requirement of their contribution.
As always, there is a greater responsibility on every one to take quantum jumps in promoting NDE Science and technology in academic institutions which cater to S&T courses. Even though efforts by several past presidents, NGC members have resulted in initiation of student chapters, the greater demography of India definitely warrant further sustained efforts. These student chapters will inspire the next generation engineers or technologists in S&T to play an active role in NDT and ISNT in general. A modest target of 10% year on year growth in membership seems reasonable and should be striven for.
Wider dissemination of knowledge should be at the forefront for any professional society. As always, ISNT has played a phenomenal role in this area as well in the form of JNDE. Specifically, I would like to place on record my appreciation to the entire JNDE editorial team to achieve this through the quarterly issues. I am aware that the JNDE print issues for March, June, September and December 2025 were released in time. Moving forward, JNDE will be delivered vide online through a new online portal at jnde.isnt.in. It is also heartening to note that the papers published in JNDE are now being indexed by Google Scholar and thus, enhancing their wider reach.
In addition, the continual role played by the Training Management Board (TMB) for ensuring uniform quality and delivery of training courses (leading to certification), irrespective of wherever it is conducted by any authorized centre of ISNT deserves a special mention. Similarly, steps taken by National Certification Board (NCB), not only ensured continuation of IS13805:2004, but also initiation of ‘International Certification in NDT (ICN)’, which meets the requirement of ISO 9712:2021. It is fitting to mention that NCB-ISNT is the only NDT certification Body in the country that has been accredited by NABCB, QCI as per ISO17024. Also, ICN is the only scheme in India included under ICNDT MRA Schedule 2.
Similarly, the Program Formulation and Management Board (PFMB) is doing a terrific job by conducting non-certification programs such as webinars, workshops, conferences, seminars, etc., Further, PFMB is also playing a pivotal role in keeping the dialogue open with other international NDT societies, national technical societies to formulate and organize joint programs.
All in all, I am positive about what lies in the future for this fantastic technical society. I am looking forward to discuss with each and every member about the plans and activities of governing council. I am sure that together; we can take this society to far reaching heights.
Thank you, 'Jai Hind' !
